On the road again

As a special treat for in-car entertainment, I bought myself a Knifty Knitter, which should help solve my crochet problem, where I can't use nubbly, furry, or lumpy yarn. I just can't see the stitches. This is a scarf I'm making for Matt, to replace his guinnea pig scarf (which was a replacement for his special ed scarf). This much progress took about two hours!

Anyhoo . . . after a nice visit with the Jackman ladies and yet another lunch at Cugino's, we hit the road in our rented Mercury Montego about 5pm. Here's Matt clearing the tripometer in our driveway:

It's the usual route -- I-69 south to I-94 and around the lake. Past Gary, still the gem of the midwest! It's stinky, just like you left it. Here's a look at the power lines and the South Shore line, around sunset.

I was hoping to get a picture of the Chicago skyline, since we'd be arriving just after it turned dark. Unfortunately, it was too bouncy to get a really good picture -- this is the best I did despite numerous attempts. Ironically, immediately after we got past my skyline photo op traffic ground to a halt. It took us about another hour to get through town. Memories of big city living. :)

After the traffic jam loosened up a little we continued on 94/90 through Illinois and then into Wisconsin. We are currently stopped for the night in the Wisconsin Dells Best Western. Two delightful treats in one. Matt was in Wis Dells about 15 years ago, but only remembers the styrofoam house. Maybe we'll have a quick tour of downtown before hitting the road. Oh and PS? The hallway of the WDBW smells like somebody took a crap in the ice machine. But it was only $78 and it has free wireless. Maybe the smell will dissipate overnight.
